Yeah, story and character are Bioware’s specialties, while their gameplay tends to be more hit-and-miss. I’ve been a Bioware junkie for most of my life, so I can’t even pretend to have an objective perspective on their games. There are few devs out there who are as good at stirring emotion through story elements, though.

Never before have I played a game that made me repeat an annoying quest purely out of guilt. I tried to go for a ‘Jean-Luc Picard’ type character, but I just ended up feeling guilty constantly.

I played the PS3 version, and though the battles were tedious, I found that the level of difficulty often influenced my decisions in a very realistic way. More and more I found myself looking for peaceful solutions, not just for the sake of narrative, but because I really didn’t want to die again.

I’m not sure if it would be accurate to call this my favourite game, since none of the gameplay appealed to me, but it certainly has one of my favourite stories.

But I’d say that if he has a pattern, he tends to favor sci-fi games over fantasy, especially classical fantasy. Maybe it’s that he expects lots of yakking in a fantasy game but in a sci-fi game just wants to get to the action, and so Mass Effect disappointed him while Dragon Age hits the mark. But I really don’t know.

Well…this is going to sound awful, but judging by his appearance and mannerisms, he seems like the kinda guy who’d be raised on D&D, so perhaps he has a hidden bias…?
