Wow, I had no idea that it was a real name. I just thought that they were being goddamned lazy in making up a fantasy name, like people who name their characters "Wulf" or "Raven."

Sorry to trash your name. It's a perfectly fine name for a normal person, but a name that means "honey bee" is still an awful name for the High Priestess of the God of Murder. And it's also still a bad alias if your former name was "Amelyssan the Blackhearted." Did she really expect us not to see through her disguise?

re:What kind of a name is Melissan, anyway? All it is is Melissa with a goddamned random consonant on the end of it. What is that, supposed to strike fear into my very soul? And don’t think that putting it back to Amelyssan the Blackhearted changes anything. We’re always going to remember that you sucked at choosing aliases.

geeze emily, stop pickin on my name.
actually the name melissan is just a varient of the name melissa, which comes from the ancient greek name melitta, which means honey bee. look it up on urban dictionary.

too bad that the most famous person with my name is a video game villian, but maybe there is a reason for it.

Man, it's been too long since I've seen that film. All I remember is The Rock buried in sand and Michael Clarke Duncan in an outrageous costume.

Just watched The Scorpion King on TV and I thought of this post. I like how Scorpion King is basically an 80's movie from 2002.

Hooray for greasy peasants! I know you love them. I love them too. There's a greasy, stinky, illiterate peasant inside all of us. And they need heroes too!

He's part of the minor constellation of people who make good fantasy movies, people for whom I am very, very grateful. But television is still a wasteland, and that's what this rant is really about. Fantasy could have a Star Trek, a Battlestar Galactica, even a Firefly. But since everyone expects fantasy to be lazy, up to and including the people who write it, we're stuck with shows like Legend of the Seeker forever. Graaargh!

Well, it did cost them about a gazillion dollars to do it well, and there are other factors in Avatar's profitability. My guess is that the 3D craze still won't lead to measurable gains for most of the films it's used to make, so it'll probably die down despite this success.

I was actually far, far more impressed by the computer animation, and how seamlessly it blended in with the live action. This actually excites me, because it can lead to far more fantasy and sci-fi films in the future, which are my faves.
